Fires are the third leading cause of death for children ages 1 to 14. Research shows that a home fire occurs every 88 seconds, with 77% of fire-related deaths occurring in homes. In 2017, the Fire Museum added fire safety to its mission and has worked to develop and fabricate new experiences that center on fire safety and prevention.
Support from the Dunham Fund will help the Fire Museum develop the exhibit, Staying Safe: From Firehouse to Your House, a hands-on interactive experience designed for children and families to learn about fire safety and prevention. This exhibit helps the museum bridge the gap between history and fire safety education to teach families about fire safety and prevention and how to safeguard their homes and loved ones.
