Fox Valley Park Foundation

This Dunham Fund grant will help to seed the Mighty Acorns program to be launched in 2016 at the Fox Valley Park District’s Red Oak Nature Center. Mighty Acorns is a collaboration between the Park District, the Conservation Foundation and Aurora area elementary schools. It is an environmental education program that connects students to multiple, meaningful and sustained interactions with their local ecosystems. The program spans three school years and is designed for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students and can be modified for other grade levels. Its curriculum is aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards and Common Core Standards for English Language Arts. The Dunham Fund grant will help to cover materials cost and the associated staff time, particularly for the Mentors and Lead Educators.
