Second Lieutenant Walter E. Truemper is the only soldier from Aurora to receive the Medal of Honor. His gravesite – at the St. Paul Cemetery in Montgomery – had very few markings to represent the sacrifice he made for his country.
With a grant from the Dunham Fund, Fox Valley Veterans Breakfast Club (FVVBC) purchased and installed a 25-foot flag pole with a memorial monument and plaque that paid tribute to Walter’s story. A formal dedication was conducted on Veterans Day 2017, and the memorial flag continues to stand as a symbol of honor for a fellow citizen who contributed so much.
