The Illinois Youth Center is a co-ed justice facility, one of five youth centers under the Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice. It is responsible for all female adolescents committed to IDJJ, along with young or vulnerable male adolescents. The IYC program focuses on identifying strengths and needs of each at-risk youth so a comprehensive, individualized treatment program is designed to achieve positive outcomes.
Due to the state of Illinois budget impasses, funding for tech enhancements was lost. The Dunham Fund grant provided restoration of WiFi services in the youth living cottages. With WiFi, youth are again able to access important educational classes that aid in their treatment and recovery.
