Research shows that one in six children in Northern Illinois are food-insecure with a lack of access to nutritious food. The Northern Illinois Food Bank serves 13 counties in Illinois and partners with over 900 programs to provide more than 60 million meals each year.
Throughout the summer, the Northern Illinois Food Bank provided two programs aimed at ensuring Aurora kids had access to nutritious meals while school is out for the summer. From June through August, Meals on the Move and the Weekend Backpack Program delivered over 3,000 prepared breakfasts and lunches and more than 130 backpacks – or 1,179 meals – at five sites.
The Dunham Fund is proud to support the Northern Illinois Food Bank and its efforts to ensure that kids in the Aurora area have access to delicious and nutritious meals throughout the summer months.
