Spectrios Institute for Low Vision treats patients with vision problems regardless of income. The Dunham Fund grant will allow Spectrios to offer eye care in-home, at retirement centers and nursing homes four days per month for individuals who have a visual impairment or at risk for vision loss. Priority is given to those who cannot afford the cost of their exam, glasses, low vision aids and travel expenses. A sub-specialty care program refers patients for advanced eye care beyond the mobile clinic’s scope.
A similar outreach effort targets children as Spectrios travels to schools throughout the area providing free low vision exams and optical devices to children with severe visual impairments. The clinic also promotes awareness of the latest technology such as video magnifiers. Spectrios makes presentations to community organizations to inform and educate citizens in need how they can access affordable eye care.
