Waubonsee Community College Dr. Bill and Mary Marzano Scholarship Fund

In honor of a career of public service in higher education, the Dunham Fund Board of Advisors established the $50,000 Dr. Bill and Mary Marzano Endowed Scholarship within the Waubonsee Community College Foundation. Dr. Marzano, Assistant Vice President of Transfer and Developmental Education, worked at Waubonsee for 15 years and retired in 2015.

The scholarship will first be available to students in the 2017-2018 academic year and will be for new or returning education majors with a preference for students who are interested in pursuing a career in post-secondary education.

Dunham Fund was introduced to Marzano in February 2007, when they embarked with Waubonsee on one of their first Dunham Fund grants for the establishment and management of the Dunham Early College Academy.

This grant was approved through the Dunham Foundation’s Ready for the Future RFP Grant and supports Wayside Cross Ministries’ Urban Youth Ministries (UYM) Program. The UYM program provides tutoring and mentoring support to Aurora-area students during the school year and summer programming. UYM will also engage other partners through this funding to broaden tutoring and programming offers for their students.

This traveling exhibit opens in Washington, D.C. in November 2024 and runs through February 2025. The exhibit will travel to Aurora, IL for the first stop on its national tour visiting towns along the Chitlin’ Circuit. During the exhibit’s time in Aurora, there will be various film screenings, community conversations, and educational sessions that explore the exhibit and documentary’s themes and their relevance to our community today.
